“Anyone can become an architect as long as they like to draw”
Ever since I was little, I’ve always wanted to be an architect. Back then it wasn’t because of the limitless possibilities of being able to create out-of-this world architectural designs; no, my interest in architecture was simply because I thought that I get paid to draw something, much like an artist, but with more science to it. I love to draw. And I believe that anyone can become an architect as long as they like to draw.
“God is in the details”
My first introduction to the world of architecture was of course, when I was still very little, much like everybody else: my first architectural experience was my own house; the very house that I grew up in. Though my house is not an architectural wonder, it did, however, give me my earliest spatial experience. My experience is then enriched as time goes by, through the immediate surrounding that envelopes me; the houses/apartments that I have lived in, the neighborhoods that I have lived in, the schools that I have attended, and the cities I have lived in. Later polished by my formal architectural education in Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Surabaya (ITS), my experiences then took me to the professional world of interior design. That was when I learned of the phrase “God is in the details”, the phrase that made me crave for the attention towards details; the phrase that led me to understand that an interior design may have divine values; the value of perfection, when it is perfectly crafted down to the smallest detail.
